Hypnotherapy is a wonderful way to make lasting changes in a relatively short space of time.

Hypnotherapy utilises the power of positive suggestion to bring about subconscious change to our thoughts, feelings and behaviour.
The process itself aims to alter our state of consciousness in a way that relaxes the conscious part of the mind while simultaneously stimulating and focussing the subconscious part. This heightened state of awareness – reached using skilled techniques – allows the therapist to then make appropriate suggestions.
Hypnotherapists use techniques that bring about deep relaxation and an altered state of consciousness, also known as a trance. A person in a deeply focused state is unusually responsive to an idea or image, but this does not mean that a hypnotist can control the person’s mind and free will. On the contrary, hypnosis can actually teach people how to master their own states of awareness. By doing so they can affect their own bodily functions and psychological responses.
Your sub-conscious mind is where all the experiences and knowledge you have had in your life are stored, just like a massive and complex computer hard-drive. Everything you have ever seen, experienced and learned is stored there. Sometimes, a series of past experiences create a set of negative responses to a given situation and it is my job to work with you and your sub-conscious to define a new set of responses that are helpful and freeing instead of hindering and limiting. Just as if a weight were lifted!
The hypnotic trance state is a natural state and you will have experienced this at different times in your life like when you drift off into a daydream when gazing through a window. Daydreaming is very pleasant, as is the hypnotic trance state. All my clients say that they enjoyed the experience. And why not, what can be nicer than taking time out to relax?
What is a Clinical Hypnotherapist?
Clinical Hypnotherapy is where a person receives hypnotherapy from a qualified hypnotherapist with a counselling and healthcare background. In the UK, a clinical hypnotherapist is a licensed clinician who can use the practice to treat a range of medical and psychological conditions. Most health professionals who practice clinical hypnotherapy are registered with a professional body and are regulated by the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC).
When might hypnotherapy be useful?
Hypnotherapy is widely endorsed as a treatment for habit breaking, phobias, stress, anxiety and other stress related issues, stopping smoking and for a range of long-term conditions.
Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis as a therapy to help individuals improve their lives whether it be just general relaxation or stress reduction, or for other medical or emotional concerns, such as helping individuals reduce pain, cope with trauma, endure medical procedures when medication is contraindicated, reduce symptoms of functional disorders or just general well-being.
Hypnotherapy is often used in the NHS and Private Medicine by Dentists, Doctors and other Medical Professionals to enhance their patients experience.
Does everyone respond to hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis has the capacity to work for the majority of individuals. If you can daydream, you can be hypnotised and who hasn’t daydreamed at one time in their life? But, some are more susceptible to suggestions than others.
The British Society of Clinical Hypnosis states:
‘A hypnotic state occurs normally in everyone when certain physiological and psychological conditions are met and with the assistance of a skilled hypnotherapist it’s possible to use this state to make deep and lasting changes to thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Hypnotherapy is the use of Hypnosis to attain a deep level of relaxation in a client so that the conscious mind is ‘sleeping’ and the sub-conscious mind is engaged.’
